The Council has been working on updating the booklet handed out at the end
of weekends called, Your Fourth Day. In the booklet, the basics of Via de
Cristo are outlined. We have worked particularly hard on the weekend
guidelines. We are printing them here so all will be aware of our policy
regarding applicants for our weekends. Hopefully, the application process
will proceed more smoothly with the implementation of the Church Liaison.
Please note that the final selection of weekenders is not determined until
8 weeks in advance of the weekend. An Allocations Council member, in addition
to a small subcommittee from the Council, will then go through the applications
in relation to the guidelines established and determine which applicants will
become our weekenders. Even with this guidelines process, please keep your
Council in prayer as they labor on your behalf. Pray for wisdom, discernment
and protection, that the decisions they have made will be pleasing and
honoring to God and acceptable to man.
Lutheran Council of Utah will be governed by an established council of ten
(10) lay persons and two (2) clergy. The council has established the
following guidelines:
- Members of any church
in Utah are eligible to participate in a VIA de CRISTO weekend. It is
recommended that the pastor attend a VIA de CRISTO weekend before or
with their congregational members. If the pastor chooses not to attend,
the applicant is encouraged to have their application signed by their
pastor. The attending pastor's spouse is encourage to attend the
corresponding weekend.
- The attending pastor
is encouraged to have one or two people from that church attend at the
same time as the pastor, for the purpose of establishing community.
- VIA de CRISTO
(Cursillo) is open to all, both singles and married. However, it is
requested that husband and wife attend the same pair of weekends.
- Spouses of the 4th
Day community and married couples are given priority over those who are
new to the application process, given timely application submittal. A
recommended ratio of Lutherans to non-Lutherans is 75/25. A balance of
Lutherans from the various congregations is taken into consideration as
well as congregations having small 4 th Day communities.
- An application fee of
$75.00 will be required when the weekender has been accepted to a
specific weekend.
- The weekends are
usually operated in pairs, men first and then women, one week later.
Both are held in the same host facility.
- The recommended number
of weekenders allowed per weekend is 35, except by Council approval. The
application deadline is eight (8) weeks prior to the men's (or first)
weekend of a pair. (This amount of time is required for selection and processing,
and to allow one month notice of acceptance prior to the weekend.)
- Exceptions to the
application process are handled by the Council.
- Weekends are held in a
host facility where all the participants, including the presenting team,
live together as a community.
- The weekends begin at
7:30 PM on Thursday and end approximately at 4:30 PM on Sunday.
Attendance for the entire weekend is required to enter the 4 th
Day Community.
- Each weekend is
presented by a team which has been selected, gathered, and trained for
that weekend only. The same format and time schedule is followed for
each weekend.
- It is recommended that
applicants be 21 years of age or older. Exceptions to this policy will
be considered by Council.
